KING OF ALL ANGELS.
Wednesday, June 30th, 2010
Apologies for delays-I’ve been running through sources to pull some more inspiration outside of the daily grind. I have this weird idea that listening and learning from the older generation can help us youngsters understand how things get done…..which brings me to the big homey Jerome Dahan, and his brand Citizens of Humanity. All the ladies should know.

Jerome is the man. Aside from the fact that he came to the states from Europe with nothing, and began his passion in design and fashion, created leading major companies from the ground up-(literally), raised two strong kids and has the ability to never work again in his life– he still does! And after you take away all the luxury, profit, and ’stuff’ that most people spend their lives trying to chase and get more of, Jerome is an example of how financial success is only a byproduct of a never ending passion for the art that existed since the beginning. With Dahan’s designs, ‘Good’ is not enough-everything must be perfect. Take a look.

Jerome makes his rounds through the CH HQ where design and production is round the clock. You never really get it until you see how much work is put in to making a single pair of jeans. Everybody in each department in sync with Jerome’s vision, perfecting the product to every stitch. The process is an art in itself-and the key to it all J says is, “organization.” Speaking of….

Jerome is also a strong collector. With both lower sleeves by Toons, he figured why not ?

Mike here is Jerome’s apprentice, the next generation in the craft. Also working on the daily to meet the high standards of the brand.

Good….

Perfect.

Pay no attention to the recession. Just make it happen.

REVOLUTIONARY.
Monday, June 28th, 2010
” Until the victory always…” ~Che Guevara

Adam flew in from Colorado to continue his collection. Lower left sleeve. You might recognize his collection we started earlier in the year. We spent this session blocking in the first stage of the rebel soldier, and Che’s quote down the side to make it official.

Don’t talk about it, be about it. Faith, family, and focus-when the revolution for freedom comes realize that the real things in life are worth fighting for.

Worth killing for…..

Worth dying for.

BONES.
Friday, June 25th, 2010
Took another visit to the source, this time in the film department. Alot of the times, the texts here are geared specifically to each field of study-photography, design, painting etc. And alot of these books are technically ‘intellectual properties‘ of the major studios that produced them-Warner Bros, Dreamworks, Universal etc, which are not to be distributed publicly. But thankfully…

This section has almost every script of every classic-or notable- film ever made from the beginning of film itself, to present day. I’m still debating if I want to spend another four years to better understand this field, but so far the surface is appealing. The idea and process that involves a team of people, involved in every level of creative thinking that surrounds one vision is amazing. You can’t help but see the connection between painting to film. Both involve a clear vision for visual communication and most of the time arrive from a narrative foundation. The film majors say good films are good when their ‘skeletons’ or bones are strong (the script). Without true bones, without the foundation, you have nothing……..sounds familiar? Here’s a look at a few modern pieces you’ll recognize…

ENTERTAIN.
Thursday, June 24th, 2010
A favorite in studio hours, Tony Scott puts his touch to A._J._Quinnell’s novel. You see flashy camera lens shooting, and editing everywhere now, but in this film it actually works. Scott’s use of heightened color, improvised movement, and a very specific vision of the environment helps paint a strong piece….

ALL LOVE.
Monday, June 21st, 2010
Trip. Jerry came through the studio a while back to start his upper sleeve dedicated to his family. Months ago he talked about setting another day to focus a piece dedicated to his baby boy which just happen to land on father’s day-inner left bicep.

It’s safe to say no healthy father-son, or father-daughter relationship is ever easy. And any fool out there can make babies, but it takes a real man to raise one. So to all the men who work selflessly, endlessly, and who dedicate their lives and take responsibility of providing it all for the kids-we thank and salute you! For all the deadbeats……..get down and pray. Happy father’s day.
