CRACK THE MARBLE.
Saturday, October 31st, 2009
The big homey Richard came through to add to his collection~inner left bicep.

He wanted to add Christ with a twist. You might recognize The Crack from previous illustrations on some other characters, tattoos and the recent collaboration with The Hundreds.

The Crack symbolizes the break of time and imagery, regardless of how beautiful, pristine or strong any image may be, the surface quality will never last forever. Eventually time will rot, decay and take the subject back to it’s true formless nature.

Here’s a shot of the outer portion of his sleeve. I say it everytime, but it always blows me away every time I see a renaissance piece. Seeing a 25 year old Michelangelo sculpt this rock has caused some severe headaches, and very unhealthy work habits. Definitely a fun session, still a final one to go to wrap up Richard’s sleeve.

CURE FOR CANCER.
Friday, October 30th, 2009
The big sis Yen came through to start another piece on her upper left thigh.

She wanted to take a more delicate route this time, so we went with the cambodian Apsara. Yen comes from a long line of strong women who have had to fight against breast cancer. From her mother, aunts and grandmothers, the bloodline carries with it the burden of the condition.

But throughout the countless surgeries, back and forth, the coming and going of the cancer, Yen and the family still survives. She wanted to incorporate the ribbon of hope as a constant reminder. Keep you eyes out, still another session to go.

THE WORLD IS OURS.
Thursday, October 29th, 2009
I thought I’d share with you a glimpse of the work from people I spend most of my time with.

Outside and on top of tattooing, is the life at Art Center. This place can best be described as a factory, a nonstop creativity machine that is filled with nothing but the best.

Take the homegirl Grace for example.

Look familiar? Jess Yen probably one of today’s finest oriental tattoo artists and founder of My Tattoo. Grace kills it every time with the oils.

And check out the big homey Wayne. Probably one of the strongest painters on campus.

Wayne always talks about what’s next, and acts as if his future lacks success…….brother please.

And take a deep breath for Devin. Unique, powerful and crazy!

All done by paper cut-outs.

And here’s a short onslaught of a small portion of what goes on daily.

It’s always refreshing to look into the work of artists ranging in all mediums. Things like Design, Illustration, Photography is only just the surface of the what’s possible. It was over three years ago when big Lucks took me to see Cartoon who suggested I stop fucking around and go to Art Center and now it’s almost over. Being surrounded by people who are all as seriously dedicated, work ridiculously hard on their craft, and who all are skilled beyond the norm, is a rare environment that I wish can last forever………………maybe not forever.

Stay tuned, we got a guest. If your a photographer and you don’t know this name slap yourself. If you didn’t know now you KNOW.

The brother Jerry came through to seal his upper left sleeve.

He wanted to tribute his arm to his baby boy’s footprint and surround it with the zodiac symbols of the family. Thanks for the honors big Jerry.
