Here’s another brief intro to a piece in the works. This is a small 6 hour study done with the clay you’ve seen earlier.

Things like texture, process, and getting familiar with material and tools was the focus.

“The Studies”  is always where the source begins for any type of work-illustrating, tattooing, designing, painting etc.

sculp2

Taking the time to do the homework, and being able to successfully learn, miserably fail, solve problems, take uncomfortable risks and being willing to do it all over again, and again, and again and again.

Keep your eye out for the final piece from this study.

Thanks to Gene Ogami for the photos.

MOTHERLAND.

Levi came through to start his first tattoo, upper right sleeve.

His mother has his name tattooed on her arm so he decided to return the love back with her name as the foundation for the iconic LA skyscrapers. The above is the freehand lay-out…

And here’s the results of the first session. Still another to come. First tattoo, well done Levi.

PASSION.

Wednesday, August 5th, 2009

Frederick dropped by to begin the first session of his inner left bicept with the classic Jesus piece.

Jesus is always a favorite icon to tattoo, regardless of the mood of the piece. Still another session to go on this piece. Gibson’s “Passion of the Christ”, is another regular we play during session hours, another favorite. Here’s a brief clip.

THE BALLERS.

Sunday, August 2nd, 2009

The brother Bryce came in  to begin his upper right sleeve. At 22, Bryce is playing internationally representing US in basketball. He decided to begin this piece before he takes off for a year to play in Germany.

ball1

Bernini’s Neptune God of the Sea was used represent his power. More to come with Bryce. And speaking of ballers, Corvaughn and Amir Johnson came through for a quick stop.

ball3

Corvaughn wanted to get Expensive Taste across his lower left sleeve. If you don’t know, Expensive Taste is not only one of today’s sick brands, but the logo is originally designed by the master Cartoon. It was a good time to pay homage to man who defined the black n grey tattooing and streetware.

And keep your eyes out for Amir who’s piece is soon to come. If your up on what’s been going on in the NBA, AMIR, former Piston now traded to the Bucks, is the last player who was drafted straight out of high school before they made college a mandatory requirement for all the new NBA players.

And speaking of education, if you haven’t seen it already go and watch the recent documentary TYSON. We watched it this session and have been playing it for a week here at the studio. Regardless of how crazy Mike Tyson might appear in the above clip, he’s one of strongest and gives some wise insight on the most important struggle in life, with oneself.
